In fashion and design definition, colour-blocking is the use of contrasting blocks or panels of solid, typically bright colour. Since I started my blogging page on Instagram, I have become to appreciate colours and learnt how to mix colours together. I was following a number of Instagram accounts with amazing and inspiring colour-blocking outfits and started to use my existing clothes to trial, and it worked!
It’s quite fun once you start to play with colours and realise what’s working and what’s not. The general rule is taking colours on opposite sides of the colour wheel to make complementary colour combinations (see below colour wheel).
The wheel is a general guide and good for newbies who want to try colour blocking. It doesn’t mean that the colours next to each cannot mix well. In fact my favourite colour combos are Orange and Yellow, and Pink and Red. Trust me it works!
